"Whilst living abroad in the UK, at the prime age of 28 I unexpectingly was experiencing serious anxiety attacks at work and dark thoughts. I was medically diagnosed with depression and anxiety. I returned to Australia and moved to Melbourne to be closer to family. I did not have many friends throughout my childhood, was extremely shy and socially awkward. To conquer my illness and childhood fears I read a lot about animal therapy and the benefits for anxiety sufferers, I soon adopted Milly a sweet 1 yr old tabby cat. She became the perfect sweetest companion, soon later Molly the fiesty maltese x shihtzu was added to the fur family and we became 3. Molly forced me to go places and enjoy being around people, which I would never have had the courage to do before. After a stressful work day, it only took one look at my girls and any stress or negative thoughts that would normally plague me would instantly wash away. In occassional low moments molly would comfort me and lick my tears away instantly making everything better. There are no words to describe the companionship, love and strength both Molly and Milly give me. They say distraction is the best thing for mental illness, I have met so many lovely people with Molly by my side and I feel stronger and calmer as a person with both girls in my life."
