3 years ago I was diagnosed with melanoma. At 31 years of age, I never thought something like that would happen to me. I was a healthy young mum with 2 children and it was a complete shock to myself and everyone in my family. Removing the tumor, meant that part of my ear was removed. They did an amazing job, although I now have a slightly shorter ear. I never thought that regular skin checks were so important, especially for me with olive skin. After the surgery, I now need skin checks every 3 months, and I encourage people to listen and get your skin checked too.
A lot has changed since that point in my life. My husband and I sold our busy bar/burger restaurant. We added a new family member to our family. His name is Kevin and he is our fur-baby. We did a lot of research in finding the right breed for our young family. My husband is a clean freak and there was no chance we would be getting a big dog. My son was also afraid of dogs because he was chased down by one when he was quite young, so choosing a breed that would allow him to overcome his fear was very important. The benefits of the cavoodle breed, is they do not shed hair – which is basically what got my husband over the line with the idea of getting a dog.
Kevin is not just a dog, he is part of our family. We forget that Kevin is a K9 and treat him more like a human. It’s hard to think what life was like before Kevin. He has an amazing personality, he is so loving and caring. When you have a hard day, he’s always there to give you a cuddle and kiss. He is always excited to see us, no matter what. If I could speak to him, I want him to know that I love him, although I’m sure he knows it already. Says Carol & Kevvy – Newcastle, Australia. Follow their instagram account @kevin_the_toy_cavoodle
